What is Lower Back Pain?

Lower back pain is the number one concern a person brings to a chiropractic office. It is also one of the top causes of disability and reasons to miss work. It is especially concerning because it can severely limit a person’s ability to perform daily functions in comfort.

Lower back pain can vary in severity and how it presents. It can be a minor ache while sitting, standing or changing position (i.e. sitting to standing). More limiting it can send pain into your hips and legs. Sometimes a person can perform their normal life duties with only mild pain while others are immobilized due to the severity of pain.

Symptoms of Lower Back Pain

Some of the symptoms of lower back pain include:

Culprits of Lower Back Pain

Aches and pains in the lower back are often caused by a variety of different factors such as sitting for long hours, improper lifting, climbing stairs, or even standing too long. For this reason, it is important to consider your daily routines in order to avoid any possible triggers.

Exercises like swimming, walking, or yoga can help reduce the risk of developing lower back pain. Additionally, certain stretches may have an impact on your lower back pain by loosening up your hips. Other ways to prevent lower back pain include wearing ergonomic shoes during work and avoiding prolonged sitting because these can cause hip compression too.

Our Lower Back Pain Treatments

Traditionally, lower back pain has been treated with rest, over the counter medication, prescription medication, physical therapy, massage therapy and chiropractic.

Chiropractic has been demonstrated time and time again as the leader in achieving better, longer lasting results. Here at Inner Vitality, we have also found that to be true.

The reason being is that as a chiropractor we are trained to perform a thorough history and examination to get to the root cause of the problem. The root cause can be a misalignment of the vertebra of the spine, known as subluxations.

There can be other causes such as bulging discs, arthritis and/or spondylolisthesis. These all can be caused by prolonged sitting, falls, athletic injuries, improper footwear, work ergonomics, or any combination of many other habits.

A Different Kind of Care

Our goal is to first find the root of the issue through a complete examination that may include necessary imaging to reveal the conditions of the lower back. From there a treatment plan that best addresses a permanent solution to the problem is created.

Based on what it found this can include chiropractic adjustment, physical therapy, massage and home care. The type of chiropractic technique used is dependent on the doctor’s decision and your comfort.

Sometimes a patient prefers or may not be able to tolerate a more aggressive manual adjustment and will need a more gentle approach. That is perfectly fine as we are skilled in many techniques that are all equally effective in getting results. Home care is provided to aid in your healing and help you take ownership of the problem so that you are not dependent on a doctor long term.
